HYPOCRITICAL CHRISTIAN LEADERS
Hurrican Katrina could not have come at a better time for Pat Robertson. The poster child of the evangelical right had to endure a rather uncomfortable few days as most of the nation took offense at this comments suggesting that America should assasinate Hugo Chavez. You can almost hear the sigh of relief from Robertson and his right-wing cronies when the media had to turn its attention towards the disaster in the Gulf Coast.
It's another example of how phony these Christian leaders in America are. Apparently Roberts-who does not pass up any chance to remind anyone who bothers to listen to him how his teachings reflect those of Jesus, especially when it comes to gays and lesbians-does not have a problem advocating the cold blooded murder of a democratically elected leader.
I recently came across this website (http://www.ihatepatrobertson.com/) that does a pretty decent job of exposing the lies, hypocisy, bigotry and deceitfulness of the Christian right.
It makes me also wonder what kind of sane human being would actually heed the teachings of these santimonious religious leaders such as Robertson, Jerry Falwell and James Dobson. How is someone like Robertson, who has asked his congregation to pray for the demise of liberal Supreme Court justices, any different from the crazy Mullahs who issue fatwas upholding murder?
Instead of coming clean and admitting that he was a jackass for making those comments, Robertson initially tried to blame the Associated Press for mis-quoting him. You can't blame the guy for trying to squirm out of it. Blaming the 'liberal media' has always been a sine qua non for social conservatives. Unfortunately for him, the public wasn't biting and he had come out and officially apologize for his comments. Lying seems to be acceptable in Pat Robertson world.
Liberals around the country should NOT take pleasure at Robertson's mea culpa. Instead, it should be another stark reminder to them of how much of a threat these religious conservatives are to society and how important it is that they do not dictate how things are run in this country, and the world for that matter. They demand nothing less than total obedience to their parochial teachings which are filled with nothing but deceit.
In the book of John preaches that "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Religious leaders in this country would be wise to heed these before they open their mouths to spew their hate-filled diatribes. It's high time Christians realize than it is a disgrace to Christianity that the likes of Robertson and Dobson are allowed to take leadership roles in the church. God is too good to be represented by such bigots.
