IDIOCY IN MALAYSIA

Another example of the idiocy that permeats the land called Malaysia. Apparently, some wives in the country have concerns their husbands might "fall prey to the charms of women from China" thus the hesitancy to hire mainland Chinese women. Seriously, WTF????

To alleviate these concerns, the President of the Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies told the AP that they "shouldn't prejudice and discriminate against Chinese nationals. Of course, some are sweet-looking, but not all." Again, WTF??? If this is his most persuasive argument against discrimination against mainland Chinese women, it's no wonder that hardly anyone is buying it, not that the initial concern was not asinine to begin with.

Note to concerned Malaysian women: If your husbands are so easily prone to seduction, your concerns should not be the presence of mainland Chinese maids, but whether your husbands are currently engaging in extra-curricular activities like visiting massage parlours and brothels.

Note to President of the Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies: If this is the most intelligent comment you can come up with, it is no wonder your country is constantly the butt of jokes from your neighbour in the South.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Malaysia's maid agencies urged employers on Friday not to discriminate against female domestic workers from China.

The Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies said it supported the government's plan to recruit domestic helpers from China to plug a shortage of maids in the country.

The association's president, Raja Zulkepley Dahalan, dismissed concerns from some Malaysian women that Chinese maids might seduce their husbands and break up their families.

"We shouldn't prejudice and discriminate against Chinese nationals. Of course, some are sweet-looking, but not all," Raja Zulkepley told The Associated Press. He said around 80 percent of maids' employers are ethnic Chinese.

Home Affairs Minister Radzi Sheikh Ahmad announced last month the government was considering bringing in domestic maids from China and India, among other countries, to balance the shrinking traditional labor markets of Indonesia and the Philippines.

He said Indonesian maids, which now comprise 95 percent of Malaysia's domestic helpers, were shunning Malaysia because of low wages, forcing the government to seek workers from other countries.

Women leaders in a Malaysian Chinese political party objected to the proposal, saying they have received complaints from women that their husbands have fallen prey to the charms of women from China.

Raja Zulkepley responded that such cases were rare, and that if husbands wanted to stray, they could also do so with maids of any nationality.

Employers are given workers' biographical information, including photos, by employment agencies before they hire a maid, and Raja Zulkepley said they are not compelled to hire workers from China.
He further suggested the government could appease women's concerns by raising the minimum age of maids from China from 21 to 30.

The Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies represents 100 maid agencies out of 345 registered agencies in the country.
