It's been at least 15 years since I last set foot in Hong Kong. It has definitely grown to be an even more vibrant society in the past decade. There were many naysayers who casted doubt on Hong Kong's ability to sustain economic growth after the handover in 1997. Certainly, the swaths of people migrating to Canada, Australia and the United States did its part to accentuate the negativity surrounding the future of the country after 1997. I am personally glad for the citizens of the country who have strived hard to dispel those doubts. Economic growth in Hong Kong after 1997 has been very impressive, due in no small part to the resilience, diligence and entrepreneurship of its citizens.

On the same note, I personally avoid Michigan Avenue on weekends because of the foot traffic from tourists. The human congestion on Michigan Avenue on a weekend is NOTHING compared to that of Causeway Bay or Mongkok on a weekend. The sheer number of people in just those 2 areas in Hong Kong make the weekend crowds on Michigan Avenue seem like a deserted island. Just imagine the crowd on Times Square in NYC on New Year's eve and picture that same suffocating crowd every weekend on the streets of Hong Kong's most popular areas. Truly amazing. It goes back to what I mentioned in the previous paragraph of the vibrance and energy of Hong Kong.
